The Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, is a traditional Chinese festival that commemorates the poet Qu Yuan. When zongzi is mentioned, people will associate it with the Dragon Boat Festival, which occupies an important place in the hearts of the Chinese people. Zongzi is made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. Various ingredients are added into it according to different regions, such as meat, beans, red dates, mushrooms, etc. It can be made into tasteless, sweet, or salty, making it a delicacy suitable for all ages. When the Dragon Boat Festival comes, many families will make zongzi, but the steps of making zongzi are complicated and the craftsmanship passed down from generation to generation has been preserved to this day: First, you need to soak the glutinous rice in water for a few hours or overnight. This step ensures that the rice grains become plump and sticky after cooking. Next, wash the bamboo leaves and remove any dirt or impurities. Soak the leaves in boiling water to soften them, making them easier to fold and wrap the zongzi. Third, prepare the ingredients. Prepare the ingredients to be wrapped inside the rice dumplings according to your taste preferences.
